This is some VERY useful information! I'd never heard of "neighbor spoofing" before, I was wondering why i'm getting all these telemarketing calls from local numbers. If your phone has the option of announcing the caller's name, program it to announce the names of all your friends, your workplace, doctor, school, etc. I've done this with mine. When I hear a name, I know it's someone I want to talk to; when I hear a number, I know it's a telemarketer.

Don't know about where you are, but in the UK we get inundated with fake calls from scammers pretending to be from "your ISP". They claim "your PC is infecting the internet with viruses and slowing the network down". Of course it's a load of bullocks but they try to gain access to your PC to fix it stating they are doing you a favour for the low cost of just £199. So that way they get some money for doing nothing and they likely take control of your PC.

How do they get your number? There's probably lists circulating online for purchase. Or more often than not, they'll use an auto-dialler which just keeps ringing numbers until someone answers.

Thankfully someone invented the call-blocker which I've had to purchase in order to stop these calls.
