Ticks and Lyme disease!

Yeah , yeah i know who would have thought that there be a blog about such an abhorrent little creature as the common tick.
What really is a tick?
Well its a member of the arachnids ( spider family) It has a body and eight legs unlike the insect world which have three body segments and six legs ..The reason i am writing this is because i had two of them removed because they were embedded in my skin on my back..A place where they can go to escape and feed undetected ..I didnt notice them because i rarely go outside in places where they hide...not realizing they can travel from tree to tree on even a fine piece of spider web or just float on the air ..in a wind..I shower and bathe but these guys can survive alot of stuff..Only way i knew they were there is i was using my back scratcher and kept hitting what i thought was heat bumps on my skin..Once i realized these were not going away i took a look in a big mirror with a smaller mirror and sure enough there were two on my back..in a place really hard to see.
Ok, ok now not all of them crawl..if i am sitting and feel crawling i usually know whats doing the crawling..but since my bike accident there is some nerve damage and feeling loss on my back..little buggers know this and head for these places...I called my Dr. right away and got in same day, as Lyme disease is prevalent here i wasnt taking chances...Long story short the Dr. has to take a good size chunk of flesh making sure the pinchers are totally gone as they stay alive for days making infection more sure..Now that was done i have to wait because the Disease does not show right away if the tick is infected with Lyme...thats a waiting game in itself. It can be treated with usually no side effects but if a fever is present then you need to seek medical help..So far i am good ...but time will tell.
Bottom line here is make sure you know what types of ticks is in your area and keep checking your body dont slack off on that ..check your pets and thoroughly ..and dont panic if you see a tick ..rational thinking will have more impact on outcome..

Very true. I have had 2 of my dogs get one never showed signs until it was too late. The other did show signs. It's a nasty disease for sure. It effects everyone different. I sure hope things turn out well for you.

Living in the south and playing golf regularly, I make sure I look for ticks. Although occasionally one will still find a way to attach. Glad you got them removed and hope they weren't infected.

We have a MAJOR tick problem here in my city. A few people I know have contracted Lyme disease. It's scary! Especially when you have little kids that you want to run outside and play but are paranoid they'll get bit

I have no effing clue where I'm going and what I'm saying Vixn_Vella

Its not me....It's you.

And no...we cannot be friends

I know two people living with lyme disease. One isn't too bad off but one can't get out of bed somedays because he feels drained of energy

Very insightful - I got a tick bite never saw it tho until my legs swelled up, was 4 -5 months until the docs got it under control. Had the swelling drained several times - it was no fun.

Omg I am so sorry to read that..i always so careful with my animals and i have not had a dog for a long time now..i had horses but for some reason the ticks didnt hang on them i seen the tics crawling but they dropped off..I kept citronella spray on hand and they always had that on them for fly repellent so thats maybe why...that spray works well for all animals ...its called Bronco can get it from a feed store ..thanks

yeah I read on google about what places have them who has the most and what to watch out for ...not much but fire will kill them ...I dont think they were according to the Dr,..because of the nerve damage the places where they were attached one was dead..and the other wasnt getting blood..maybe the nerve damage prevented them from drawing blood?

yep and its becoming more serious all the time because their numbers are increasing all the time..when i was a kid we never seen them if they were around it wasnt an issue..I dont know anyone around here thats got the disease but then again i dont get out much..which may be a good thing..and i am sure parents are out of wits with their kids not being so much out and about because of that very problem...

yes i hear thats one of the worst symptoms..if it is caught early then treatment is extensive but effective..the buggers can survive anything but fire ...sad ppl cant enjoy life without something always messing it up

wow I am so sorry to hear what you went through and no i dont imagine it was any thing easy about it ..I heard of one other person whose arm swelled because of a bite got infected because they never got the pinchers ..they stay alive for quite awhile after the tick is removed...
