Pulling Eye Teeth to get a Hair Cut.

Have you ever had one of those days/times when you're getting really pissed off about something, but in the end, it works out for the best?

Had a fun one today.

sorta picky about who cuts my hair. Yeah I know a guy, with short hair. Shouldn't be that big of a deal. Maybe it stems from my and early twenty , when it was long and curly. Think Peter Frampton. haha.

So anyway, a few months back I find a stylist that I liked. Did a great job. I get it cut every three weeks, and the first three visits went off without a hitch.

Quick disclaimer, I own a service business so I really never know what my schedule will be like. I know it's my problem, that it's damn near impossible for me to schedule a appointment for tomorrow, but still.

Anyways, back to the story. So cut before last, I call up and the girl tells me Jessica is there and has no appointments for the afternoon. like great, put me down for 2. But no, not that easy. She needs more info than the DMV and my card number. driving, so like , "never needed an appointment before, what' up with the 12 page info sheet." She explains oh...its just policy. I tell her busy, but I'll stop in later as a walk in. Stop in a hour later. 5 minute wait and in.

Yes, they take walk in's.

Last week it's time for a cut, so I call them up. No everyone is busy, but the wait is only a hour or so. LOL. I say no thanks, I'll let it go a week more and just be a little shaggy.

So now to today. I call at 10, when they open and Jessica, my stylist and just happens to be one of the managers answers the phone. We talk for a bit, she's a friendly lady. Then I ask if she has any appointments set for between 11 and 1. She says no..I say great, can you put me down for 11:15. To which she replies, We don't take same day appointments.

Ok..at first laughing and she asks whats so funny. I tell her that a couple of cuts ago, they were setting a same day appointment, but I was too busy to answer all the questions. She says, "really? We're not supposed to do that". I say, "so let me see if I understand this. You have no appointments, schedule is wide open, but you're not allowed to take an appointment because its for the same day".

She says, "well when you say it like that it does seem a little stupid, but it's just our policy". I can come in as a walk in, the wait is only a hour or so. I I tell her, I'll get back to her, if I can't find someone else to cut my hair. She's trying to talk me out of it, I tip 100% for hair cuts, sure it's not my charming personality she doesn't want to lose. But by now just fed up with the myriad of policy's and hoops , just to get a haircut.

So I drive for 1/2 mile, go into a giant salon and ask how long the wait is. 5 minutes. like sign me up. 5 minutes later, getting a hair cut by Daniela .

She does a phenomenal job. She takes same day appointments and can't understand why anyone wouldn't. (sorta my thinking). Gives me a great shampoo, I love scalp massages btw. And then to top it all off, puts me back in the chair, Brushes me out and proceeds to give me a 5 minute shoulder and neck massage. Say's it's just part of the service.

like ding, ding, ding!!! We have a winner!!!

And to top it off..even tipping her 100%, she's 20 dollars cheaper than the rules factory where I was getting it cut. LOL

So things started off horribly, and ended up not only getting resolved. It's better now than when I started. Gotta love it.

Sometimes things happen for a reason. And sometimes change is a great thing.

Thanks for listening to me rant.

Have you ever stuck with something for ever, resisting change..but then when you pull the trigger, you find you should have done it long ago. ?

Does that fall under serendipity? I love that word but was never really clear on it. And, policy. Policy is made by those who do not have to enforce it.
It is a cringeworthy word. We all have to endure it. I bet you look mahvelous.

My old garage guy... I used to think I was getting good service... until one time... he quoted me something on my car that was outlandish. I went to another guy who quoted me (and did the job) for one third the price. To this day - "he's my guy! Btw... I do my own hair, since I was bald before Bruce Willis created the look... But, once in a while, I'll go and have a lady shave me and give me the whole treatment... It's GREAT! hmmm... an idea for man spoilin' ... yep!

That's a huge amount of BS to go through for a haircut. It's hair, for crying out loud, not a trip to the DMV. It shouldn't require forms and tons of questions.
Glad you found someone that does a good job...and for less money, too! Win-win!

When I first started to read this I was " WTHF He went to the dentist for a hair cut" ( pulling teeth). I am beyond fussy about who gets my hair to the point that if my regular person cant get me in I have my own scissors and gall. She's done my hair since chemo and when it came back "funny" she worked with it. She has retired but kept about 10 of us former heads for just Saturdays. She's really special so hang onto your new gem

Yeah, it's amazing how sometimes when we think it's all lost, we find what we need.

Hope rehab went great for you this week.

I'm with you..I love that word. And yes , I think it could be used here.

Sometimes I think people make policy without really thinking it through. It just looks good on paper. LOL

Right!?!?!? It pissed me off at first. Then I just had to laugh at it. Only some bone headed young marketing genius could come up with that many ways to drive away customers.

After trying so hard to get a haircut for a week..if I had found a dentist who would cut my hair during a good cleaning, I'd have been all over it.

I will hang onto this one.

Not I.

I've got to find a picture of me with the long hair and post it on here. Back when I was sure I was gonna be a rock star. I had the look. Long curly hair, the way too many drugs and no eating skinny look. LOL.

I may just post one this weekend.

I used to go this Chinese food restaurant thinking it was the best in city. It's called Aloha. I liked the name too. Lol. A friend of mine who lives out of state when he comes to my city to visit his in laws he went to a different place. I kept saying that I am going to try it. My sister wanted to go out for Chinese but said she thought Aloha's food was not that fresh since they did so much business. So we tried the restaurant my friend had recommended. Well golly gee it was better. Fresh and the service was good. So when we want to go out for Chinese food we will go there. Lol.

My daughter has been my hairdresser for years, and she used to do my cuts at her house, so she could pocket the entire cost.

Now that she is "her own boss", with a 1 person salon, she is almost impossible to get an appointment with, and is no longer willing to "cut it at home".

I told her that "unless you want me to wear a bag over my head, because my hair looks so awful and she doesn't want anyone to know she's my hairdresser", she will start booking all my appointments 6 weeks ahead of time. It worked. Due for a cut next week.

Well they would take walk ins, but it was getting to be a hour or more wait. And with my schedule, I just don't have that time to sit around. They probably have so many walk in's because they don't take same day appointments. LOL

Seems like a silly rule. I was talking to my neighbor last night, after I had posted this. Sorta funny, he said he had been going there for a while, but got tired of getting an appointment, then still waiting for 30 mins, because they took a walk in before him. LOL

Customer service is quickly loosing ground here. Don't know how it is up there. Might just have to make a post on that. LOL

Yeah, back when I was in corp mgmt, I always had a running appointment for a hair cut. But I could get away whenever I wanted.

These days, my schedule is crazy. I rarely know for sure what I'm doing in the afternoons, until 9 am the same day. LOL

Good for your daughter , starting up her own business. Smart move in my view.

That was my thinking as well. I think a lot of people, myself included, just get comfortable, cause, "it's the way I've always done it".

I really liked Jessica at the old salon, but no, I won't go back. My take is, if my business was important enough to begin with, we'd have worked something out without me leaving.

Plus, I don't think it'd be fair to the new girl, who did fit me in. I try to reward good service.

Well I think at times there are other factors involved in applying that to dating. There are situations where "important enough" doesn't always apply. At our age bracket, we have too many other important aspects in our lives that interfere, at times, with dating. Kids, Jobs, distance, time. It gets to be a complicated thing. LOL.

I can think of one girlfreind, actually the second one after my divorce, who told me I was spending too much time with my youngest. At the time, she lived with her mom and I had her every other weekend. On those weekends, I would spend the majority of my time with my daughter. The girlfriend said that I should just get a baby sitter and still take her out on those weekends. I told her that if she asked me to chose between my kid and her, she'd lose every time. It wasn't that she wasn't important, but my daughter is important as well.

On the flip side. I had a FWB that I really liked, about 5 years ago. Longest relationship I've had since being divorced. We hung out a lot, had tons of fun together. Really clicked, on all levels. She got a job offer that was going to move her across the country. We discussed it at length, and while we both thought of each other as "important", it was more important to her future and finances to take the position. So she left. We're still friends to this day, and talk on the phone periodically.

Both of my daughters are hairdressers....and I have no roblem getting my hair done when and where I want....They will both colour it but I only let the older one cut it....the younger one would scalp me!!! They are both pretty busy and I don't think either of them do walk ins....but you don't need to answer too many questions for a cut either. I don't understand the need for that.
