Hold My Beer

Famous last words...hold my beer! LOL We've all seen them. People doing stupid things, with not so surprising outcomes. And we love to laugh at their misfortunes. Truth is, I laugh, because in my youth that probably would have been me.

I was talking with my and neighbor yesterday and this topic came up. And of course, all the stupid things we did as . I was proud to acknowledge that my oldest , wasn't near as brain dead as I was as a .

As a I was always the one in the crowd that would try anything. Jumping off a 40 to 50 foot railroad bridge into 8 feet of water. Anything even remotely possible on a BMX bike or a dirt bike. Hell, they even convinced me I should try to ride a bull once, at a amateur rodeo. LOL, that was not a great idea.

I brought up two that we talked about, and yeah laughed about, that I did as a .

First one was out camping with friends. We were drunk, just a given on one of our camping trips, and out walking along some cliffs. One of the girls hat blew off and landed in some scrub brush, hanging off the cliff. Two of my buddies tried with sticks to retrieve it, but it was caught pretty good. I still remember my exact words, "get out of the way, I'll get it". Yeah, leaned too far out and whoosh, I'm gone. Fell off a 40 ft cliff. Only thing that saved me was a small tree growing out of the cliff on the way down. I grab a branch as I went flying past, and it slowed me down enough to only fall another 10 feet or so. Little cut up and bruised, nothing broken, we just met back up at camp and laughed. And of course drank more beer. Next morning my right side shoulder and chest was black and blue. Probably a bunch of torn muscles, but never went and had it checked.

The other was my Evil Knievel imitation. We had a creek by the house, with lots of trails. Lots of great motocross trails, jumps, berms. Someone mention trying to jump the creek. Problem was, the side we were on was about 5 feet lower than the landing side. No problem..lets just take that board over there, prop it up with some rocks and make a ramp!!!. Great thinking!! Of course, now that the moment was here, everyone starts having second thoughts. So, of course, I jump in with, "I'll do it". We figured I'd need some speed, so I head back a bit and take off on my YZ125. I hit the ramp in 4th, probably doing over 45 and fly...straight into the cliff on the other side. Me and the bike just stop, then fall down into the creek.

I don't remember hitting, don't remember falling or getting up, but apparently I did. When I stood up, my friends were clearly concerned. You could tell how they were all rolling on the ground laughing. After a bit, they came and helped me pull my bike out of the creek. Pushing it home, one of my friends says, "dude, you're insane". Hell, he probably wasn't far off.

We're you a "Hold my Beer" kind of ? And trust me ladies, I bet a few of you had some poor decision moments too.

I really really hope that I have grown wiser but sometimes I doubt it.....after all I blog here!

When I was young....I was going to change the world and nothing was going to stop me. I mitched off school with some friends to go on the Aldermaston March. This involved an 8 hour boat trip from my island home and hitching to London. I was lucky not to be expelled from school and even luckier to be alive after I got home to my Dad and older brothers. I don't think I have done anything as crazy again though my second marriage might come a close second.

Haha, yeah at times I seem to still think I'm 30 . Joined a football game at the beach a year back . Kept getting up after each hit, no problem. But damn, I felt it in the morning.

I was not a physical Dare-Devil and I don't think a wine chugging contest counts, especially since I was pressed into service. (though I did win)

There have been other non-dangerous times where the words "BJ will do it" were heard. I really needed to learn to run away faster!

Opportunity may knock only once, but temptation bangs on the door forever!

Never did any of the daredevil stunts, but I've been down the highway at over 100 mph on my motorcycle more than once. Also a couple of trips on the highway at about 120 mph in the hot rod. Managed to not get hurt. Riding horses damned sure proved to be hard on me though. Got thrown and broke my back and some ribs. Ouch...

I Was a huge risk take. I thought Rules and protocol were not written for me. Living in this urban sprawl, pushed me into crazy places where I or, my friends and I should never have been. No flight episodes... and I always talked my way out from behind those metal, vertical bars... but it was close more times than I can recall ... Now... well, I'm caught up in this a f f abyss... nuff said.. Yep... 😗

That first line is a very good point. "oh look a post on dick pics, Here hold my beer!"

I have to say, it does sound like it was fun though...hahaha. Glad you made it through the trip and the Dad.

It still counts BJ...it's just in the category of "hold my wine". That always involves people like you, that were much classier than us guys.

LOL...I'm gonna remember that last line. So..who can we get to do this...someone call BJ.

I suppose the Hold My Beer moment was my 21 st birthday. I had just received the devastating news that my best friend was hit by a car crossing the street. She was supposed to be celebrating with me. Instead I went to Smokey Joe's bar which had an upstairs and downstairs with some friends that were nursing students. I told everyone that I wanted a shot of everything I could think of...I remember having Ouzo and tequila for sure. A guy who was in one of my classes shared the same birthday so he bought me what he said was a kamikaze. I drank it and told him it tasted like lemonade or was not alcohol at all. He thought I was crazy. LOL Then I went downstairs and someone else bought me a kamikaze. So I had to apologize to my classmate when I saw him next. I ended up sitting at a booth with my friends as the adrenaline left and the alcohol sunk in...My nursing friends did not know my best friend that well but could all understand the tragedy that had happened. (my best friend ended up rehabbing for a year. She was paralyzed from the neck down but went back to school and even Grad school). On the table at the booth was an empty pitcher of beer. I ended up throwing up in it. How convenient that pitcher was. LOL Luckily my friends took care of me, walked me home, and put me to bed. I have not repeated such a drunken experience again thankfully. I am a social drinker if anything and am usually the designated driver so only have a few if any drinks.

Now that's an interesting take.. a Hold my Beer moment, that involves the consumption of too much alcohol, being the moment. There was more than one time I wished I hadn't drank so much.

These days, I rarely have more than a couple of glasses of wine.

Brings back memories, I have been told I did some real stupid stuff when I was a kid, I didn't drink beer but was just a ruff kid... Put my self in the hospital several times, turned over cars, drag raced with the county law. did not know they had a brand new 1958 Chevy with 396 and 4 speed. . Cost me my license for 30 days and I think $50, school of hard knocks will teach you in a hurry when you don't make $50 in a week..But those days are over, I have mellowed and a bit more reserved these days.Still do enjoy driving my strait shift. Just part of driving.
