missed a lot

since when did a TV series run from Oct to November, take a hiatus over the holidays and then end in March? is that normal? add in the two weeks off the the Olympics and it was barely a season.

sighs.

seems like less is just less. and now the regular stations are showing more and more reality TV than anything else. music shows, game shows, survivor, bachelors, chelfs, wtf.

amc has some new stuff, syfy, OWN. seems like the big 3 have lost their footing. hell, might as well just sell to Gordon Ramsey............he's on every week, all year.

i have a Roku so i'm grooving on old stuff and the Netflix and amazon series. i finally watched the Sopranos. not bad. and the Wire - way good.

i need suggestions - what did you watch that was killer that i can find on my Roku?

The problem here is that Hollywood doesn't want to pay good writers, so they now all lean on either reality shows or a different spin on something they've already done. And so, we're left with NCIS: New Orleans.

You've got it right. Love my Roku. Abandon network television for good and move into the on-demand world, where all the decent drama lives. I'm not great at keeping up with all the offerings. My brother-in-law has been trying to sell me on the Starrz series Girlfriend Experience, so there's one to try. If you haven't yet sold your soul to Game of Thrones, I think you need to. You have seven seasons to catch-up and by that time maybe season eight will be here.

My favorite of all time was the HBO series Deadwood. The only problem with it is, HBO and the creator of the show had a contract dispute and left the series hanging after season three. They keep talking about coming back to give it a proper ending. Nuthin', though. But Deadwood still holds the record for number of times the word "cocksucker" is used in a single episode. Plus, over all three seasons, it averaged something like 1.5 "fucks" per minute. That's quality television, right there.

Hallo WE

Have you seen "Death in Paradise"? It is a British Cop on a Caribbean Island working with the Local Police, don't know if it is being shown over there. Series 7 has just finished over here, I am getting withdrawal symptoms already

Tv has gone down the tubes wicked. The good programs all stopped during the Olympics and started back up again. I like law and order suv. Criminal minds. Bill wasn’t too bad. I will be happy when game of thrones comes back on again. Westworld was another interesting one as well. Hugs V

All I can tell you is what NOT to watch!!!!!!! I can't believe I was so excited over the freaking Olympic channel going to air! At least now I can get my bobsleigh "fix" in on the reg now!

I heard Amazon has a few good shows on, but I'm not sure if you can get them on the Roku.

wickedeasy replies on 3/22/2018 12:11 pm:
yeah, i've picked up a couple from amazon lately - didn't realize they had their own series.

What the hell is ROKU? I know someone who got it, tried it, gave up and switched to Dish. I personally hate Dish, and Direct, and all the alternatives. We have dish, and it is not direct and direct is not dishing it out, and so I choose what is best on it. Isn't that the best we can ever hope to do? Antenna, perhaps is best of all, I don't know. I will let you know my feelings on all satellite stations once I move to Mars! I just hope that Mars has a more direct way of dishing out good programs. Well, I have to go, Family Guy is on!

Not sure if it will be available but the best show that have seen recently is called "The Wrong Mans." I think that it had a fairly short run but it is simply brilliant. Dark, twisted and has a plot that is intricately woven together.

This series is from a few years ago, so apologies if it is old news to you

Love my Roku player and never watch broadcast network TV any more. There are a few series that I catch up on when they hit Netflix.

Have you watched Mozart in the Jungle? It’s on Amazon and a fun peek into the classical music world.

I’ve been working my way through Person of Interest forever.

And even though I’m not really a comic book person, I usually like the dark Marvel series like Jessica Jones, Daredevil, and Luke Cage.

Haha...Deadwood.

I am not a prude, and have been know to drop multiple "fucks" in a single sentence...but I cannot get through that series...I've tried a couple of times, I love Timothy Olyphant (Justified is my favorite show...after GofT, lol). I get so hung up on the language, I'm missing the story.

we...if you've got Netflix, give Shameless a go. William H Macy is stellar.

If you like the BBC stuff, Poldark is excellent, and Sherlock (absolutely outstanding). (Not sure if Poldark is on Netflix, but Sherlock is. Poldark is on Prime, though.)

If you haven't seen it, Breaking Bad is definitely worth the time. Dexter is fantastic, but not for everyone, lol.

I also love the Inspector Morse...Inspector Lewis...Endeavor group of shows.

Januaryman has it right on the Game of Thrones...it's outstanding.

I think I watch too much TV, lol.

The Battlestar Galactica reboot is on Amazon ... and it blew me away.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Yes, really.

Mad Men.

Age cannot wither her, nor custom stale
Her infinite variety. Other women cloy
The appetites they feed, but she makes hungry
Where most she satisfies. For vilest things
Become themselves in her, that the holy priests
Bless her when she is riggish. ~~ from Antony & Cleopatra

Well before my" Off The Grid demise" I did not have TV for over 10 years. Now that I have gotten at least a landline and internet ( cable came with it- yep pre-bundled) I watched some hockey and some olympics. since I spent a large number of weeks "without" things I binge watched DDD ( Guy Fieri- gives me ideas of towns I want to visit) a few NCIS and some old Westerns. Give me a good book any day

(Virtual Symposium Group) use Virtual Symposium Group

The Fall, The Killing, and Spartacus. All on Netflix. The first two are detective/serial killer series. Spartacus is beefcake, brutality, and sex, sex, sex.
