My father passed away last month, at 63 years old.
I've never been close to my father... hell, we've never even liked each other, and he was the primary reason why I became an emancipated minor at the age of 14, so his passing doesn't really fill me with grief.
It fills me with guilt. I feel guilty because I don't feel enough grief, and I feel guilty because I never sought out a sense of closure with him once it became clear to me that he would never change, even if I had. And he would never grow up, even if I try to.
It also leaves me with a sense of sadness for the life I feel my father wasted, and a determination not to follow that fate, which has an effect on just about my entire life.
